For those affected by the reduction in SNAP

Indivisible Baton Rouge (I-BR) raised almost $2000.00 in the first week of its newly launched online fundraiser to benefit the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. All donations go directly to the food bank – I-BR organizes and promotes the effort through its website (Indivisiblebr.org) and social media platforms.

Bonnie Byland, I-BR’s organizer leading the food bank fundraiser, said the group’s leadership decided the most efficient way to help people who are losing SNAP benefits and who rely on food banks to put meals on their tables is to raise money for the GBR Food Bank, which purchases needed commodities in bulk at discounted prices. The food bank serves 11 parishes in the Capitol Region. “Together, we can turn compassion into action and ensure that no one in our community goes hungry,” Ms. Byland said. The drive will continue indefinitely, as long as a need exists, Ms. Byland said.

I-BR’s leadership believes that service to our community includes helping neighbors when times are tough and many people are going without basic foods necessary to feed their families. “Promoting an online donation drive shows our solidarity with our community and against hunger,” said lead organizer Lisa King.
