Solidarity Event: National Day of Action- Stop ICE Dentention

April 25 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am
1037 Billy Mitchell Blvd, Alexandria, Louisiana
Please share far and wide! We are asking people from all over the
state to come support us in Alexandria on April 25th in conjunction with Communities Not Cages: A National Day of Action to Stop ICE Detention. Our event, Vigil for Family Freedom, is a silent vigil to observe and bring attention to what is happening at England Airpark. Home of Alexandria International Airport, it is the busiest deportation hub in the country. The England Airpark Authority has voted to expand the current detention capacity (400 high-turnover beds at the GEO Group Staging Facility) to include two “new” (actually old and polluted and zoned for industrial use) buildings to house families and children. We here in Central Louisiana are well aware of our reputation as one of the worst areas in one of the worst states (by any metrics other than culture, food, and music). There are so many good people here who are fighting ICE expansion and don’t want to lose further ground to the prison industrial complex, human trafficking, and human rights violations. It’s happening all over the state, and we all need each other! Come join us for silent observation of the detention flights leaving our airport daily, and to gather afterwards in beautiful Compton Park to forge connections across the state. Together we can build a better Louisiana.. the type of beautiful, diverse, fun, unique, and prosperous (for EVERYONE) Louisiana that we want to live in
