DEMONSTRATING is UNIFYING!

Recently Indivisible Baton Rouge sent out an email to people that signed up for the No Kings protest 1 and 2.

The email was about research and proof that peaceful protest work, but only when people show up.

Baton Rouge hosts weekly and a monthly protest. Every Tuesday at the corner of Perkins and Kenilworth from 4 PM to 5:30 PM and on the first Saturday of every month from 10:30 AM to noon, with (rotating) locations.

The email was to encourage more people to join us as often as they can to grow the size of the group. If only the same 20 to 30 people show up, eventually we will become invisible to others and this fight is too damn important to loose.

The other day I received an email reply from a lady that I will call Matilda ( German for “mighty in battle” ) to keep her anonymity per her request.
She gave permission to share her story and to thank us for notifying her of these protests.

Here is her story:

Hi, thank you for the heads up!
My mom passed away in mid October so I’m a little out of the loop at the moment. We lived 200 miles apart, and visited when we could, but talked EVERY Sunday evening.

I was so excited about protesting at the No Kings on October 18, that we had our weekly call that Saturday evening instead.
I sent her pictures and videos. She was very happy for me, that I was getting off my butt, stopped complaining, and stood up and did something!

We talked about the 1960s when I was very young, and she said she had never attended a protest; and that she never got to burn her bras, lol.

She was very proud of me getting on the streets of Baton Rouge with my sign and joining the hundreds and hundreds of like-minded, democracy-loving people!! I’m so happy we had that time to talk about it cause she was gone by Tuesday, the 21st at 3:30 AM.

I will continue to do what I can! And, yes, I will bring others!! My mom would love it!!

Baton Rouge, last Tuesday, Nov 4th we probably had a glimmer of hope that the tides are turning. We have to keep this momentum going, but it will be up to WE THE PEOPLE to do it.
